Paul Wheaton and Kelda Miller continue reviewing chapter 1 of Sepp Holzer‘s Permaculture. Kelda starts by describing her blind taste test of a watered vs. unwatered tomato (unwatered wins). Paul shares about the Sepp Holzer event this spring, and the PDC before it. Sepp will definitely be talking about ponds, aquaculture, and micro-hydro. Sepp’s book goes well into hugelkultur.

They talk about the differences between a raised bed and a hugelkultur bed. The book then talks about pick-your-own farms. Paul talks about Sepp Holzer’s income strategy. Paul mentions reading Martin Luther King Jr’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail, and how MLK’s message applies today in the realm of food justice.

Paul talks about organic slug control and his ducks eating slugs video. Sepp writes about dew ponds. They talk about water wheels. Paul talks about Sepp making lakes in desserty places, as well as sealing ponds. Sepp is not a fan of using pond liners. Paul talks about “the monk” and the movement of water. He and Kelda share a Sepp story about the value of honoring the natural energy of water.
